This is our week to honor the incredible team of teachers that we are so blessed to have here in Tyrone. We truly appreciate the meaningful work that our teachers do every day, not just during this week where the accomplishments of teachers are celebrated all across our district, state and nation. I am reminded every single day that Tyrone’s teachers are dedicated to the success of each and every child. They provide hope to the most needy young citizens in our community. They provide stability in attitude and attention to every detail of a child’s life and they understand the influence they have on the lives of kids. Tyrone School District’s teachers are meaningful partners in the raising of our community’s children. On behalf of the administration, school board and community, it is my privilege to extend a heartfelt message of gratitude for the work that our teachers do. It is true that teaching is a calling, not a profession, and I am so honored that our teachers have chosen Tyrone School District as a place to make a difference in the lives of others. Covid19 Update April 15, 2020 Teachers and Students: please check your school email address for updated information on ZOOM meetings and assignments. Students: there are still a few of you that have not cleaned out your lockers. Please come any time Monday through Thursday between 8:00AM and 12:00PM. We have heard great things from our teachers and staff about our students doing great things with this distance / continuous learning approach. Please keep up the good work. BOBCAT PRIDE!!

We are deeply saddened to hear that Bill Lunceford passed away. Bill’s passion, energy, and quick wit enriched and improved all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Bill. ​Bill served on the Tyrone Board of Education from 1988 to 1998 and was an avid fan of the Bobcats. ​His greatest love was for his family. Our hearts go out to Linda, Tim, Molly, their families and to all who were touched by his extraordinary life. Josh Bell Superintendent

Dear Tyrone Public Schools parents and staff: This afternoon, the state Board of Education voted to close all Oklahoma schools, effective immediately, until at least April 6 in an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19. This includes Tyrone Public Schools. Additionally, there will be no school activities during this time. While state officials mandated schools to close and also encouraged administrators to prepare for the possibility of longer-term closures, if it becomes necessary. At least 35 other states across the country also have made the decision to close schools statewide in the interest of public health. Oklahoma schools are not expected to be required to make-up the missed days. At this time, schools have been instructed by the state Department of Education not to provide online, home-based or distance learning for students. This is an unprecedented situation, and it continues to evolve by the hour. We know this uncertainty can cause anxiety and worry, but we want to assure you that Tyrone Administration and Board of Education are doing everything possible to ensure the needs of students and employees will be met during this unique time. We will be closed for classes, but – as a district – we will continue to serve our community, while abiding by the healthy best practices that have been recommended by the CDC. Employees will receive information about their responsibilities during the school closure over the next few days. We encourage you to comply with what health officials have recommended as well. If you can, please stay home and enjoy family time. If you must go out, please practice social distancing, allowing at least six feet between you and other individuals. It is our hope that accurate and up-to-date correspondence will combat fear and panic, as well as help you make well-informed decisions for your family. As a district, we will be sending correspondence to you by Social Media sites and mail. Child Nutrition is of course a major concern during this difficult time. The plan being developed with Keystone Food Service is to provide a carry out breakfast / lunch daily, Monday through Friday, beginning on Wednesday March 18. Parents or students will be allowed to pick up the meals and leave. Both meals will be provided to the student at the same time. Meals will need to be picked up between 9:00AM and 11:00AM. There will be no eating in the cafeteria. The point of this program will be to get the students fed as best as we can. If students will not be able to pick up the meal delivery will be possible. If you would like to have your child to have the option of receiving breakfast / lunch please contact the school tomorrow, March 17, between the hours of 8:00AM and 3:00PM to be added to the list. This will assist our cafeteria staff in food preparation beginning Wednesday. In addition if you would like to have meal delivery please advise us when you call. The school is an important part of the community and we jointly share in the responsibility of providing for our children. Please understand that we know that this is a trying time for everyone involved. We, as is everyone, are doing the best we can with the information and guidance given to us. These times cause reflection on our priorities and allow us to think more carefully about what is important to each of us in our lives. 3-15-20 6:00 P.M. Update: COVID-19 We are aware that Liberal has cancelled school for the upcoming week. They are making decisions based on advice from KSDE. Tyrone Public School will return to school tomorrow March 16th. The Administration will sit in on another conference call with state leaders at 2:00 P.M. If any decisions are made to close schools we will communicate that to you. I have fielded many calls and concerns about us attending school. We will make all decisions with guidance from the OSDE and the Oklahoma Dept of Health. Thank you for your patience as we navigate through difficult times. Josh Bell Superintendent

3-13-2020 Update on COVDID19 for Tyrone Public Schools: At Tyrone Public Schools, we are monitoring the coronavirus situation. Mr Smith and I sat in on a conference call with the State Superintendent today and also visited with the State Health Dept. At this time, Tyrone Public Schools will be returning to regular scheduled classes on March 16th. We also plan to continue with all scheduled activities. The District is setting up a date to bring a representative from the Health Dept to our district to hold a meeting with students and parents to go over proper hygiene and guidelines to ensure we are doing our best to limit the spread of any virus. The State Dept of Education is working on plans for school closures in the event of a community spread issue. If the SDE or we at Tyrone Public School feels it is necessary to close we will have a plan for education for your students. Administration is working on educational guidelines for such plans. While we do not know the number of people or where they live, there will be testing available so the numbers could most likely increase. Keep to your health procedures and stay home if you are sick. Remember, we are not trying to be alarmists but preventative. What we do today as prevention, promotes less spread of illness for the future. This is a fluid situation with changes happening hourly. Tyrone Public School 3-12-2020 Dear Parents/Guardians: In everything we do, the safety of our students and staff is our top concern. In light of that, we want to share an important message about the coronavirus (COVID-19) illness. With the virus now spreading outside its origins in China, federal health officials are preparing for a likely outbreak in the United States. The District is monitoring the situation closely and is taking direction from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Oklahoma Department of Health regarding mitigation procedures. We are asking parents to help in the effort to minimize the spread of this type of virus by having your family follow the recommendations from the CDC, which are the same ones that everyone should practice during flu season: * Wash hands frequently * Cover your nose and mouth: When coughing or sneezing cover with a tissue or by using your sleeve or elbow * Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth * Stay home when sick and don’t return to school for at least 24 hours of being fever-free without the use of medication. In addition, the school district is following recommendations from the CDC to daily clean areas and equipment frequently touched by students and staff, and encourage students to wash hands often. In addition, we will be adding extra hand sanitation dispensers in our buildings. We also encourage parents to report if their child has a confirmed case of the flu to help us track viral infections and to better target our sanitizing efforts. If we do experience COVID-19 cases, we will take our direction from the CDC and the Oklahoma Department of Health regarding potential school closings. Josh Bell Superintendent

Pep bus leaving Woodward, should arrive to Tyrone by 12. We will be bringing the pep bus back for tomorrow’s game. It will leave at 5 from the school.
